Joseph T. Prete Esq.
Location: St. George, Utah
Joseph was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. After serving a mission in Russia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he attended BYU on scholarship. In August of 2002, he graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in international studies and a 3.8 GPA. Days later, Joseph started law school at BYU. In April, 2005, he graduated from BYU law school in the top third of his class.
While attending BYU law school, Joseph externed for the Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court, the Office of General Counsel for the LDS Church, and the Utah Attorney General’s Office. He also served as a Senior Editor for BYU’s Education Law Journal, co-authored multiple chapters for a student law/religion manual, and helped plan and orchestrate annual international law and religion symposia.
Between 2005 and 2015, Joseph practiced law in Las Vegas as a civil litigator. His primary areas of practice include estate planning, business law, litigation and real estate law.
While working in Las Vegas was a wonderful experience, Joseph and his wife, Haylee (Stout), yearned to move to Southern Utah, where they could raise their children closer to Haylee’s family. Toward that end, while working full-time, Joseph took and passed the Utah bar exam in 2014. In July, 2015, Joseph joined Barney McKenna & Olmstead, P.C.
Joseph and his wife, Haylee, were married in St. George in March, 2001, and they are proud parents of seven children (five girls, followed by two boys). Joseph enjoys hiking, volleyball, piano, singing, oral history, and community service. He also enjoys languages and is conversant in Russian and French.
