BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Daren was born in Provo, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University on a Presidential Scholarship and graduated from the University Honors Program, cum laude in 1991.

Daren majored in political science and was nominated as a Truman Scholar Nominee, a Scholastic All-American, Member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. While attending college, he was actively involved in a variety of intercollegiate organizations and community service activities. Daren received his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Daren is married to RaeBeth Barney and is the father of one daughter and four sons. He enjoys being active in community service programs and has served on the Board of Trustees for Leadership Dixie, BYU Management Society, Southern Utah Bar Association, and as a Commissioner for the Ivins City Planning Commission.

Since January 2002, Daren has served as the Mayor of Ivins City, which is located approximately eight miles West of St. George and is home to the nationally-recognized Red Mountain Spa, Tuacahn School for the Performing Arts, Kayenta and Coyte Gulch.

Daren began his legal practice in 1994 as an attorney in Southern Utah. In 1999, he became a founding partner of the law firm of Barney McKenna & Olmstead, P.C. He served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Washington County Small Claims Court from 2000-2004, and in 2005 was selected by Governor John Huntsman to serve as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Fifth Judicial District.

Daren's primary areas of practice are Real Estate Transactions; Construction and Development Law; Business Law (Corporations, LLC's Partnerships, Mergers, Sales and Acquisitions); Business Litigation; Banking and Commercial Transactions; Mediation and Arbitration. In 2004, Daren became a certified member of the Court Roster of Mediators and Arbitrators for the Fifth Judicial District. Also in 2004, he was nominated by his peers as a member of Utah "Legal Elite" as one of the premier Utah attorneys in the area of Business Litigation.
